Fortschritt Bayern
Another speaker at the GAWC of Munich (German-American Women’s Club of Munich) member meeting came from the organization FortSchritt Bayern — Ms. Tatijana von Quadt, accompanied by the organization’s press spokesperson, Ms. Svenja Kristen.
Ms. von Quadt was able to share, from very personal experience, what it means to have family members with disabilities and how essential it is to receive support from outside the family — especially with an inclusive mindset. It is important to embrace TOGETHERNESS from early childhood, through school, vocational training, and into adulthood.
For many, many years — nearly since its founding 30 years ago — the GAWC has supported this organization. At the upcoming Silver Tea event, FortSchritt will be one of the recipients of the club’s donation checks.

4th of July, Independence Day 2025
More than 750 invited guests attended the celebration of the 249th U.S. Independence Day at the U.S. Consulate General in Munich – among them numerous figures from politics, business, academia, media, civil society, and the military.
The atmosphere was shaped by live music, classic American specialties, and the solemn performance of both the U.S. and German national anthems. The highlight, however, were the addresses delivered by U.S. Consul General Dr. James Miller and Bavarian State Minister for Health, Care, and Prevention, Judith Gerlach.
Dr. Miller emphasized: “On this Independence Day, we are also reminded of two important milestones: the end of World War II 80 years ago, and next year’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence.”
He recalled that 80 years ago, American soldiers liberated millions from Nazi tyranny and brought with them the enduring promise of freedom. He added:“As U.S. Consul General – and as the grandson of a Holocaust survivor and great-grandson of Holocaust victims – this anniversary carries deeply personal
meaning for me. It is also a powerful reminder of the United States’ commitment to fighting antisemitism and all forms of hate. As President Trump said: ‘Never again is now.’”
Dr. Miller further noted that the U.S. Consulate General in Munich, in close partnership with Bavaria, is working daily to advance shared priorities: “Together with Bavaria we are safer. Together with Bavaria we are stronger. Together with Bavaria we are more prosperous.”
Leading up to America250, the Consulate will highlight American and Bavarian excellence in research, education, sports, and culture – achievements that set global standards and inspire generations to come.
State Minister Judith Gerlach also underscored the importance of the close transatlantic partnership: “In these challenging times, we stand closer together than ever before.”
The 249th Independence Day celebration in Munich was a powerful symbol of the deeply rooted friendship between the United States and Bavaria.
Happy Independence Day!
