We are the German-American Women’s Club Munich, which was founded in 1948 as a forum to improve mutual understanding after the non-fraternization laws were relaxed. Therefore one of our main purposes is support for German-American student and youth exchange programs. Every year the club supports students from both countries who study for one year in their respective guest countries and sponsors the only privately financed exchange scholarship program for American and German students.
We also actively support charitable projects.
Once a month there is a club meeting with a speaker. In addition, there are activity groups within the club, which are organized and led by members on a volunteer basis.
The German-American Club also sponsors two fundraising events with a long tradition. The Magnolia Ball has been held during the Mardi Gras season in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof since 1951. Our Silver Tea has been held annually in the fall since 1949. Since 1998 it has taken place in the Kaisersaal of the Munich Residence.
The Munich club has 220 members at the present time. The wives of the incumbent minister president of Bavaria, of the consul general of the United States of America and of the lord mayor of Munich as well as IKH Prinzessin Ursula von Bayern are honorary members of the Munich club.
