The German-American Women’s Club was founded in 1948 after the repeal of the post-war non-fraternization laws, as a forum for better understanding between German and American women. Today, our goal is to support the German-American student exchange program and charitable projects. At present the club has 220 members. The yearly membership fee is € 90,00. Once a month there is a meeting open to all members with a lecture program. In addition, there are a number of activity groups, which are organized by members for members on an honorary basis.
The wife of the respective Prime Minister of Bavaria of the respective Consul General of the United States, HHR Ursula Princess von Bayern and Mrs. Karin Stoiber are honorary members of the Munich club.
Each year, the efforts of the club enable students of both countries to study abroad. The German-American Women’s Club is a sponsor of the only student exchange program for American and German students, which is based entirely on private financing. Last year the German-American Women’s Club of Munich was able to support the student exchange program and local charitable projects with donations of € 55,000.00.
The German-American Women’s Club is known for two traditional fundraisers: The Magnolia Ball, which has taken place during the carnival season since 1951 and the Silver Tea, which has taken place during the Fall since 1949. Since 1998 the venue has been the Kaisersaal in Munich Residenz.
