We are the German American Women's Club Munich, which, in 1948, after the loosening of the non-fraternization laws, was founded by Her Royal Highness, Princess Pilar from Bavaria. It became a place where the meeting of Germans and Americans furthered bi-lateral understanding and the foundation for German-American friendship was laid.
Since the beginning, it has been a special focus of our Club to develop this friendship further. Therefore, we sponsor the German American Student Exchange and Youth programs, incidentally, the only such programs that are privately financed. Through the Student Exchange program, our Club enables students to study for one year at the university-level year in their respective host countries. The Youth program provides an opportunity for German and American youth to attend seminars and also for German youth to experience educational and get-acquainted trips to the USA.
With the same level of commitment, we are continuing our long tradition of charity work. Currently, we are providing support to 16 charitable organizations in the Munich area. Our Club organizes two charity benefits each year. The Silver Tea has taken place each November since 1949, held in the Kaisersaal of the Residence. The Magnolia Ball, held annually since 1951 during the carnival season, takes place in the hotel Bayerische Hof. All the receipts and donations from these events go directly to the support of our projects.
The 220 members of our Club enjoy getting together at monthly meetings and at various interest group activities, and also engage in a wide variety of volunteer activities for our Club.
Honorary members of our Club include the wives of the Bavarian Minister President, the US Consul General in Munich and the Munich Mayor, in addition to Her Royal Highness Princess Ursula from Bavaria and Mrs. Karin Stoiber.
We are pleased about your interest in our Club!
New members are warmly welcome!
